OA Has Given Me My Life Back.

when i go to meetings i always try to snag this passage to read as they go around. Took a pic of it today because well, this is what I struggle with most. So I thought I would share it. read it, pass it along or keep the memory to yourself. :)

  • Question: Have you ever read a book called "Passing for Thin," by Frances Kuffel? It details her positive journey with OA and what that was like for her. I enjoyed it a lot and maybe you might find some inspiration in it. Also, I always find the details of what people are actually doing to be very interesting, so I hope you will share your food plan with us some time. - blissmanifesto
  • Answer:

No I’ve never read it. I have loads of OA books to get through mind you.  There’s one book, simply called Overeaters Anonymous which is a collection of people’s stories of their time in OA.  I read one last night entitled ‘He never let a hot doughnut get cold’.

Yeah details are great but I can’t actually share my food plan, not for reasons of secrecy or anything, but because it’s my plan.  What I mean by that is that it’s designed specifically for me, for the foods I eat.  If I were to give it to someone else then it would just be another diet menu and has far less chance of success.  Mind you, the food part of OA is only a small bit, it’s mainly about self discovery and spiritual.  I find the spiritual thing hard because I believe in absolutely nothing at all out there.  Well, except revenge which is completely against OA’s teachings!

A few days after my previous post my all time low hit lower. I even considered going into rehab.  I brought this up at my Saturday afternoon OA meeting, had a lift home with a member who then instigated something that changed my current situation and changed my outlook and control over food.

She asked me if I was prepared to be open minded and willing to try something. “Of course.” says I knew a member called Robert. I replied yes and she then made me call him while I was with her.  Our conversation was brief but we arranged to meet up a few days later and together we drew up a food plan for me.  My plan (they vary person to person) meant I had Three meals and three snacks a day.  Each evening I was to plan tomorrow’s meals according to my list of approved foods, the precise time I would have it.  I then text this information to him.

Although I’ve never asked if this means he’s my sponsor, neither has he said it, what I consider him to be is my food sponsor. Different from the rest of a 12 step programme.

Ever since then I’ve been ‘abstinent’ from compulsive eating and binge eating for 3 weeks.

For this I am happy.

Unfortunately I’ve only recently recovered from my period of illness so won’t be back at the gym until tomorrow.

Hi guys. Yeah it’s been ages.  My health and fitness has hit an all-time crisis.  As I said in my previous post I have now joined Overeaters Anonymous and am just starting to find my feet there.  Food still a problem as I’m not ‘working the program’ yet.  After a few weeks I did well for a week but then slipped backwards in style.

Still enjoying the gym but haven’t been for a week because one of ill health.

Feel free to ask me whatever you like.
